Lynchburg College and Washington and Lee University split the ODAC Cross Country Championship races on Saturday at Virginia Beach. The Hornets’ came out on top in the men’s 8K race while the Generals’ earned #1 billing through the women’s 6K race. Lynchburg’s Ricky Flynn earned his second straight individual men’s title, earning him the ODAC Men’s Runner of the Year award. Washington and Lee’s Jessica Shaw was tabbed the ODAC Women’s Runner of the Year after earning her first individual crown.
Guilford College ran in the 2008 Wingate Pre-Conference Invitational Thursday afternoon at the Wingate University's Cross Country Facility. The host Bulldogs swept the team titles, which Guilford did not score. The event was Guilford’s final preparation for the 2008 Old Dominion Atlantic Conference championship meet in Virginia Beach, Va., Nov. 1.
Long-time track and cross country mentor Bill Cason was hired as Guilford College's first assistant men's and women's cross country coach Wednesday. The Clemmons, N.C., resident will assist Quakers' first-year coach Heidi Pinkerton, especially with recruiting.
Old Dominion Athletic Conference cross country coaches tabbed Guilford College's men's team sixth and the Quakers' women seventh in their annual preseason polls, released Tuesday afternoon. Washington and Lee University, the defending men's and women's league champions, earned the poll's top spots.
Interim Athletic Director Tom Palombo introduced Heidi Pinkerton as Guilford College's new head men's and women's cross country coach and Eddie Luck as the Quakers' women's tennis coach Friday. Guilford's first female cross country coach, Pinkerton takes over for Jamie LaFollette, who resigned after two years in July. Luck, also Guilford's men's tennis coach, replaces Jenn Anderson '96, who resigned following seven seasons to take a similar job at Bishop McGuinness Catholic (N.C.) High School.
