Quakers Drop Women's Tennis Decision at Averett

DANVILLE, Va. - Host Averett University claimed a 9-0 decision over visiting Guilford College Thursday in a nonconference women's tennis match.

The Cougars (9-4) cruised to their fourth straight victory and won all nine matches in straight sets. Guilford fell to 2-3 with the loss.

Heidi Sarkkinen, ranked 21st in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III national rankings, was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Guilford's Makayla McLaurin at first singles. Sarkkinen teamed with Eleanor Crane for an 8-0 first-doubles victory over McLaurin and Delaney Taylor at first doubles.

Guilford's Alex Giddens won a team-best three games in a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Rainey Townsend at fifth singles.
