Guilford Defeats Hollins, 3-2, in High-Scoring First Half

ROANOKE, Va. (10/7/09) -- Bree Vohs' first goal of the season capped a wild opening 10 minutes and proved the game-winning goal in Guilford College's 3-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference soccer win at Hollins University Wednesday afternoon.  

All five goals in the match were scored in the first 19 minutes, including four in the first nine minutes.  

The Quakers improve to 5-8 (3-3 ODAC) with their third win in four matches. Hollins drops to 3-7-1 (2-6 ODAC).  

Hollins opened the scoring on Brooke Bruce's tally in the first minute. Guilford tied the score a little over two minutes later when Bri Eilman netted her team-leading fifth goal off a direct kick.  

Eilman set up Marina Schachowskoj's goal in the seventh minute that gave Guilford a 2-1 edge before Vohs doubled the Quakers' lead in the ninth minute.  

Hollins' Colleen Thamm closed the scoring in the 19th minute with an unassisted goal.  

Morgan Dean had 10 saves in goal for Hollins, which was outshot, 26-9.  

Guilford returns to action Tuesday (10/13) against visiting Averett University.
