Virginia Wesleyan Women's Soccer Defeats Guilford 2-0

Virginia Beach, VA (9/17/05) -- Senior Sharon Hay scored twice and Missy Kuhns added another score in Virginia Wesleyan's 3-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) women's soccer win over Guilford Saturday. The Marlins (6-0, 1-0) are ranked 12th in this week's adidas/National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III national poll and second in the South region poll. Guilford (3-3-1), which suffered its second straight loss, is ranked 10th in the South.

Hay opened the scoring with her team-leading fifth goal of the season off an assist by Christina Smith at 61:05. Just over a minute later, Kuhns' corner kick squirted past Guilford goalie Danielle Brisotti for a quick 2-0 Marlins' edge. Hay concluded the scoring with an unassisted goal at 75:45.

The Marlins enjoyed a 29-3 advantage in shots. Sophomore Lindsey Williams made one second-half save for the shutout. Brisotti made nine stops in the setback.

Guilford begins a six-match home stand Wednesday (9/21) against Greensboro at 4:00 on Haworth Field.
