Greensboro, NC (9/12/05) -- Junior forward Jennah Carter captured the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's Women's Soccer Player of the Week Award Monday. She received the honor for the first time in her career and is the Quakers' first recipient of the prize since 2003.
Carter scored five times for 10 points in the Quakers' 3-0-1 week, including both tallies in Guilford's 2-1 overtime win over Southwestern (TX) Sept. 5. Two days later, the 5-6 forward scored once in Guilford's first victory over Methodist in 12 tries, a 3-0 Quakers' road win. Her two goals single-handedly rallied her team from a pair of one-goal deficits to tie Dickinson Saturday. She scored the match's final tally with eight minutes left in regulation to force a 2-2 draw.
Carter has six goals and 12 points, both team highs, through the Quakers' first five matches. She scored a club-best eight goals in 2004, her first season with the team.
Carter's news added to an already good day for Guilford (3-1-1). The women's soccer team learned earlier in the day of its first appearance in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas South Region Division III rankings at the number-10 spot. Coach Eric Lewis' side opens ODAC play Wednesday (9/14) at defending league champion Lynchburg, the preseason ODAC favorite, and the region's eighth-ranked team last week.
