Greensboro, NC (12/8/05) -- Guilford College junior Jennah Carter earned a spot on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas NCAA Division III South Region First Team Thursday. Carter becomes the school's third all-region selection and the first first-team honoree.
Carter, a First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) forward, led the ODAC in points (54) and goals (23) and ranked third in the league with eight assists. Her 2.45 points per game average ranks 19th among NCAA Division III leaders. She established Guilford's record for goals in a season and her 54 points ranks third in school history. Carter scored a career-high seven points in a game three times this season and tallied three goals on three separate occasions. A two-time ODAC Player of the Week, she netted a league-high seven game-winning goals, including a second-half tally that lifted the visiting Quakers past fourth-ranked and previously unbeaten Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC Tournament semifinals. In two seasons with the Quakers, Carter ranks third in school history in goals (31) and is fourth in points (80) and assists (18).
Carter helped the Quakers to a record-setting year. Fourth-year head coach Eric Lewis guided the team to a 13-6-3 record, 7-4 in the ODAC. The 13 wins broke the previous Guilford standard of 12, set in 2004. The Quakers reached the ODAC Tournament finals for the first time in the program's history, and expect 20 letter winners back in 2005.
