ODAC Preseason Poll

Greensboro, NC (8/23/05) -- Guilford College earned the fourth spot in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Soccer Preseason Poll released Tuesday. The Quakers received 100 points in the 12-team poll, which was selected by the league's head coaches. The preseason ranking marks the Quakers' highest spot since the league started producing the polls in 1997.

Defending league champion Lynchburg earned nine first-place votes and the poll's top spot. Virginia Wesleyan and Washington and Lee also placed ahead of Guilford.

Coach Eric Lewis starts his fourth season as the Quakers' head coach seven wins shy of the school record for women's soccer coaching victories. He has eight starters among 17 letter winners returning from last year's record-setting 12-8-2 unit. Guilford reached the ODAC Tournament semifinals for the first time in 13 tries last year. Junior forward Jennah Carter is back after scoring a team-high 26 points on eight goals and 10 assists. Six of the seven top scorers from last year return in 2005, plus three starting defenders. Senior Danielle Brisotti hopes to add to her school-record 14 career shutouts in goal. Junior midfielder Chelsea Glover, a Second Team All-ODAC pick a year ago, captains the club for the second straight season.

Guilford opens the 2005 campaign by hosting the Guilford Labor Day Classic Sept. 3-5. The Quakers host Union (NY) Sept. 3 and Southwestern (TX) two days later.
