Guilford's Barolet-Fogarty Wins Academic Honor

Greensboro, NC (11/05/03) -- Senior Megan Barolet-Fogarty (Gainesville, FL/Eastside) earned a spot on the Verizon Academic All-District III College Division Women's Soccer Team Wednesday. She is eligible for selection to the College Division Academic All-America Team, which will be announced November 25.

The all-district team is comprised of women's soccer players from Division II and III institutions in the five-state area from Virginia to Florida. Nominees were starters or important reserves of sophomore academic standing or above who maintained at least a 3.20 grade point average. Selections are made by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A 5-6 center midfielder, Barolet-Fogarty recently concluded her fourth and finest soccer season at Guilford. She finished third on the team in scoring with seven goals and nine assists for 23 points, all career highs. Her nine assists lead the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and rank fourth in school history. Barolet-Fogarty started all 20 matches for Guilford, which extended her streak of consecutive starts to 79, a Quakers' record. She earned the ODAC's Women's Soccer Player of the Week Award October 27 for scoring a goal and four assists during Guilford's 2-1 week.

Barolet-Fogarty leaves Guilford ranked fifth in school history with 52 points. Her 20 career assists mark the program's fourth-highest total and her 16 goals stand ninth. She maintains a 3.7 grade point average and triple majors in sociology and anthropology, international studies and African-American studies. Barolet-Fogarty coordinates Guilford volunteers at a Greensboro shelter for homeless men with health problems and has received the school's Dana and Honors scholarships for character, scholarship and leadership. Also an AmeriCorps volunteer, she spent part of her summer in Nicaragua teaching children arts and crafts and soccer.

Barolet-Fogarty helped coach Eric Lewis' club to an 11-9 record, 7-4 in the ODAC. The team set school records for overall and conference wins and reached the ODAC Tournament for the 13th consecutive season.
