FOREST, Va. - Guilford College's E'leyna Garcia collected her third Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week Award Monday. She was also named the Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week, as presented by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Garcia, a 5-10 junior attacker, helped extend Guilford's best start in school history to 7-1 with 17 goals and two assists in two victories last week. She tied the school records for goals (10) and points (11) in a game in Guilford's 22-10 win over NCAA Division II Catawba College Mar. 18. She also set the Quakers' career goals standard and picked up five draw controls and three ground balls in the game. In Guilford's 14-10 road win over league-rival Virginia Wesleyan College Mar. 23, she netted seven goals, had an assist, won three draws and picked up three ground balls. Garcia scored the game-winning goal in the second half, which broke an 8-8 tie and triggered a decisive 6-1 Guilford run.
Now halfway through the season, Garcia has a league-high 55 goals, two off the Guilford season goals mark she tied last year. Her ODAC-best 64 points stand fifth in school history. She owns the school's career record with 157 goals and stands second in career points (208) and assists (51). Garcia ranked third among NCAA Division III scorers with 45 points and second in goals (38) through games of Mar. 17.
Coach Sarah Lamphier's club is 7-1 and leads the ODAC with a 3-0 mark headed into home conference games with Lynchburg College (3/27) and Bridgewater College (3/30).
