  • Guilford's Hale Lands Academic All-District Honor

    Guilford College's Kelly Hale earned Second Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III softball honors Thursday from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). CoSIDA members nominated and selected the academic all-district teams.
  • Guilford Pair Lands All-ODAC Honors

    Sophomore Ami Hutcherson earned First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball recognition according to a vote of the league's head coaches Friday. Freshman teammate Kimberly Keys received Second Team All-ODAC honors and Guilford senior Kelly Hale was named honorable mention. Voting was based on the students' play in conference competition only.
  • Quakers Fall to Va. Wesleyan, 6-5

    Virginia Wesleyan College scored twice in the top of the eighth inning and hung on for a 6-5 win over Guilford College in an elimination game Saturday in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament. The fifth-seeded Marlins (27-16) advance to play Eastern Mennonite Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in another elimination contest. The third-seeded Quakers (26-13) end their year with school records for victories and league wins (13) in a season.

    Guilford College scored its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament victory in school history with a 4-1 win over Randolph College, but Bridgewater took a 5-1 win in Friday's second game to send the Quakers (26-12) into the lower bracket of the eight-team tourney.

    Guilford College wrapped up a record-setting regular season and tuned up for this weekend's Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament with a sweep of visiting league-rival Sweet Briar College Thursday. The Quakers (25-11, 13-5 ODAC) won the opener, 13-3, and scored a season-high 22 runs in the 22-4 game-two victory. Both contests ended in five innings.

    Kelly Hale's one-out double in the bottom of the seventh scored Julie Langseth and lifted Guilford College to an 8-7 softball win over Randolph-Macon College Sunday. The win completed a sweep of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader after Jessica Burcham (10-5) fanned 12 in a Guilford's (23-11, 11-5 ODAC) 3-0 opening-game win. She also won the nightcap in relief to tie the school record for wins in a season.

    Brenae Pettit’s two-run, two-out single in the seventh lifted visiting Virginia Wesleyan College to a 3-2 win at Guilford College Saturday in the second game of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball doubleheader. The Quakers (21-11, 9-5 ODAC) won the opener, 2-1, on Taryn Pulvermuller’s complete-game two hitter. The win marked Guilford’s school-record 21st win of the season.

    Guilford College matched its school record for wins in a season by sweeping an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball doubleheader at Randolph College Wednesday. Quakers' senior Kelly Hale was three-for-four with a homer and two RBI in the Quakers' (20-10, 8-4 ODAC) 11-3 opening-game win in six innings. Guilford rookie Morgan Andrews went three-for-four with three RBI, all career highs, in Guilford's 8-1 win in the nightcap.

    Kelly Hale's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Guilford College a 5-4 comeback win over Lynchburg College Sunday. The victory gained a split of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader after the Hornets won the opener, 8-3, behind Lauren Duguay's three hits and two RBI.

    Guilford College combined for 24 runs in 10 innings to sweep visiting Mary Baldwin College in a rain-plagued softball doubleheader Wednesday. The Quakers took advantage of nine Squirrels' walks and 12 wild pitches for an 8-0 win in the five-inning opener. Julie Langseth and Kimberly Keys both hit two-run homers as Guilford scored a season-high 16 runs in the 16-0, five-inning win in the nightcap.

    Freshman Jessica Burcham saved both games of Guilford College's softball doubleheader sweep at North Carolina Wesleyan College Sunday and set the Quakers' school record for saves in a season (3). The rookie fanned seven in three innings of Guilford's 10-5 opening-game victory and had five strikeouts in the Quakers' 8-1 triumph in the nightcap. Senior Kelly Guarnieri tied Guilford's career hits record (144) with a second-inning single in game two.

    Host Bridgewater College stayed perfect in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Sunday with two wins over league-rival Guilford College. The Eagles (17-1, 6-0 ODAC) took the opener, 11-0 in five innings, and the nightcap, 6-1.

    Guilford College's softball team extended its winning streak to a school-record six games with a sweep of Thomas College Friday at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The Quakers (8-6) won the opener, 13-1, and the nightcap, 8-0, in five innings.

    Guilford College opened its spring-break trip to Florida with a pair of wins Thursday afternoon over Cedar Crest College at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. Taryn Pulvermuller threw a one-hit shutout in the Quakers’ 1-0 win and Samantha Golley tossed a complete-game five-hitter in Guilford’s 7-2 victory in the nightcap.
  • 2009 English Award Winners Announced

    Five elite Guilford College student-athletes will receive the 2009 Nereus C. English '26 Athletic Leadership Award Tuesday (3/3) evening. This year's English Award recipients are Jennifer Abelin, Markas Brunson, Kelly Guarnieri, Kelly Hale and Clay Henson. Since Guilford first presented the honor in 1977, 175 students have received the English Award.
  • Guilford Claims Three ODAC Player of the Week Awards

    Three Guilford College students received player of the week plaudits from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Monday. Junior Rhett Bonner of the men's basketball team collected his second weekly award of the month and Guilford's fifth prize in six weeks. Sophomore Kyle Wooden of the baseball team and rookie Julie Langseth of the softball squad collected their first awards in the league's first week of spring-sport honors.
  • Burcham Ties Strikeout Mark in Quakers' Split

    Guilford College's Jessica Burcham struck out a school-record 13 batters and Julie Langseth hit a two-run homer in the sixth to help the Quakers score a 4-3 win at Peace College and gain a split of Sunday's nonleague double-header. The Pacers (1-1) used a four-run fourth inning to take a 5-3 opening-game win.
  • Guilford Drops Two at 19th-Ranked Methodist

    Methodist University took advantage of eight Guilford College errors in two games to sweep a nonconference double-header Saturday, 9-6 and 6-0. The Monarchs (2-2) are ranked 19th in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches' Association Division III Poll.
  • Guilford Tabbed Sixth in Preseason ODAC Poll

    Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) softball coaches picked Guilford College sixth in their preseason poll, which the league office released Tuesday. The Quakers received 53 points, including one first-place vote. Five-time ODAC champion Lynchburg College sits atop the preseason poll, earning 97 total votes, including seven of the 10 first-place votes. Last season's runner up, Virginia Wesleyan College, sits in second after receiving 81 total votes.

    Fresh off its best season in its eight-year history, Guilford College's softball team is poised to contend for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title. Third-year head coach Dennis Shores, the 2008 ODAC Coach of the Year, welcomes back nine letter winners from last year's 20-21-1 unit that set many school records, including wins in a season. The Quakers also earned a spot in the six-team ODAC Tournament and had two all-region performers, Kelly Guarnieri and Kelly Hale, both of whom return for their senior campaigns.
