• Guilford's Derick Kosgei Honored After ODAC 5K Title

    Sophomore Derick Kosgei earned Guilford College’s first individual Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) outdoor track and field title Saturday with a narrow victory in the 5,000 meters at the ODAC Championships in Bridgewater, Va. Kosgei also placed fourth in the 1,500 meters and accounted for 14 of Guilford’s 29 points at the meet.

    Rhodes College women's and Emory University men's squads dominated the 2009 NCAA South/Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. Although both team places four runners in the top-ten spots to secures the overall team championships, neither team had the individual champion for the day. Trinity's (Texas) Caitlin Masse (22:56) ran away with the women's individual title besting her closest competitor by 39 seconds, while Lynchburg’s Ricky Flynn (26:10) earned the individual men’s title finishing 16 seconds ahead of the next runner.
  • 2009 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Championships Come To Guilford College

    The region’s top small-college distance runners are headed to Guilford College this weekend for the running of the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championships. Representatives from 36 women’s teams and 32 men’s squads from Virginia to Texas compete this Saturday (11/14) on Guilford’s Meadows Course for berths in the Division III National Championship. The women’s six-kilometer race begins at 11:00 a.m. and is followed by the men’s eight-kilometer event at noon.
  • Lynchburg Dominates 2009 ODAC Cross Country Championships

    Lynchburg College dominated the ODAC Cross Country Championship races on Saturday in Salem, Va. The Hornets won both the men’s 8K race and the women’s 6K race, while also earning six of the eight individual awards. Lynchburg’s Ricky Flynn earned his third straight individual men’s title, earning him the ODAC Men’s Runner of the Year award. Flynn’s teammate Jennie Pernisi took the ODAC Women’s Runner of the Year title after earning her first individual crown.

The Eagles’ women's squad dominated the event, scoring in five of the first seven spots, while the men's team placed five runners among the top-12 overall to take the men’s team championship over second-place Virginia Wesleyan College.

    Freshman Richard Rogers set the Guilford College eight-kilometer record at the Great American Cross Country Festival at the Wake Med Soccer Park Friday. Rogers completed the course in 27 minutes, 20 seconds, nearly six seconds faster than the previous mark set by Noah Mace in 2006.

    Freshman Molly Smith captured the Guilford College Cross Country Carnival women’s race and helped Bridgewater College win the team title Saturday. The Eagles’ Jordan White won the men’s race, but Washington and Lee University placed five runners among the top-11 finishers to take the men’s team championship.

Washington and Lee University, the defending league champion, earned the top spot in the women's poll's. Lynchburg College, which won last year's men's ODAC cross country crown, was picked first in the men's poll.
