GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Guilford College's men's track and field team sent five contestants to the Aggie Invitational for the annual two-day meet hosted by North Carolina A&T State University. The Quakers were among the few non-NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II schools in the competition.
Guilford's Wanya Alford narrowly missed a top-10 finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.03 meters. He placed 11th in the 15-man event. Alford and teammate Tuari Walker represented Guilford in the 200-meter dash. Walker finished 58th in 24.32 seconds, a step ahead of Alford's 59th-place mark of 24.74 seconds.
Josephus Mitchell clocked Guilford's second-fastest 100-meter dash time of the season with a wind-aided 11.25-second clocking. He finished 34th in the race.
Rookie Alex Heck competed in two throwing events. He was 20th in the discus with a throw of 25.73 meters and 14th in the javelin with a mark of 35.11 meters.
John Martinez was the team's lone distance runner at the meet. He finished 23rd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.91.
Coach Danny Cash's Quakers compete for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships next weekend (April 20-21) in Bridgewater, Virginia.
