Quaker Men Competed at Vertklasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The Guilford College track and field teams competed in Friday's Vertklasse Meeting, hosted by High Point University. The meet featured a mix of NCAA Division I, II and III teams.

Freshman Alex Heck's throwing efforts highlighted the men's team's performance. He posted the eighth-longest discus throw in school history (29.54 meters) in a 25th-place finish. He claimed ninth in the javelin with a toss of 35.91 meters, the team's longest of the year.

Asa Bell led Guilford's sprinters with a 25th-place time of 11.44 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Mahmoud Henderson (11.79) and Tuari Walker (11.93) also ran in the race. 

Caleb Anderson paced the distance runners with a 25th-place time of 2:09.50 in the 800 and 4:30.19 in the 1500.

Saturday's VertKlasse events have been canceled due to weather. The Quakers compete next weekend at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T State University.
