Wanya Alford Sets Outdoor Triple Jump Mark at Terrier Relays

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Guilford College track and field teams competed at the Terrier Relays, hosted by Wofford College, on Saturday. The meet featured mostly NCAA Division I and II teams.

Wanya Alford highlighted the day for Guilford. The sophomore set a new Quaker triple jump record after posting a 13.57m mark. He finished fourth of 18 competitors and bettered the Guilford record set by Eric Johnson in 1977.

Teammate Jeremiah Hedrick was seventh in the long jump. His distance of 6.60 meters tied for the sixth farthest in Quaker lore. The sophomore was seventh of 31 competitors in the event.

Freshman Asa Bell was 26th in the 100 meters after clocking an 11.27 time. Sophomore John Martinez ran the 1500 meters in 4:23, good enough for 30th.

The Quaker track and field teams return to action next Friday (4/6) at the VertKlasse meet hosted by High Point University.
