GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Johnathan Smith (Conyers, Ga./Salem) collected the ODAC Player of the Week and the Guilford Student Athlete of the Week Awards Monday. These awards are presented weekly by the ODAC Conference Office and the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), respectively. He is Guilford's first winner of the ODAC's weekly indoor track award in school history.

Smith, a sprinter, placed fourth in the 60-meter dash among 68 contestants at the Liberty Open Jan. 30 in Lynchburg, Va. His time of 6.92 seconds in the final broke his own school record and is the fourth-fastest in NCAA Division III this season, tops in the ODAC. Smith qualified for the event with a time of 7.00 seconds.

In addition to his record-setting performance in the 60-meter dash this season, Smith also holds Guilford's 200-meter dash record. His top 200-meter time this year (23.13) ranks second in the ODAC. He is the defending ODAC indoor champion at 55 meters and defending runner-up in the 200 meters. Smith was a two-time All-American at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Interim coach Danny Cash's Quakers are back in action Feb. 4 at the Kent Taylor Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford's SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among Guilford's student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a cancer awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
