FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Guilford College's men's tennis team opened its fall season this weekend at the Methodist University Fall Tournament. The event featured eight singles flights, occupied by five different institutions.
Coach Dave McCain sent eight contestants to the tournament and three Quakers had top-five finishes.
Logan Glass had the best record among Guilford's competitors. He went 2-1 in the seventh flight. Glass notched a 7-5, 6-0 win over Averett University's Jon Smith and a 8-0 win over Methodist's Kyle McKeon, but lost to eventual champion, X'Zavier McDaniel of NCAA Division II Barton College, 6-3, 6-2.
Senior Mark Wasilewski finished fourth in the sixth flight with a record of 1-2. He won his opening match against Methodist University's KJ Hardie. The second-doubles tandem of Levi Bruff and Graham Pearson pulled out an 8-7 win over a pair from Averett to claim fifth place.
The Quakers will compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association South Region Tournament Sept. 29-Oct. 2 at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
