Guilford Moves to 6-1 in ODAC Play With Road Win at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – Guilford College's men's tennis team improved to 6-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) with a 6-3 road win at Randolph-Macon College (4-7, 1-4 ODAC) Friday afternoon. The contest was originally scheduled for Feb. 19, but postponed due to rain.

The Quakers (9-6, 6-1 (ODAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches, including an 8-1 win by the top tandem of Tyler Mercier and Clayton Hamilton.

Mercier, the reigning ODAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, saw his seven-match singles winning streak end when the Yellow Jackets' Mederick Ceril pulled out a 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 win at first singles. Ceril has won 10 straight singles bouts. Guilford's Turner Votipka and Hamilton claimed straight-set wins at second and third singles, respectively. Ben Nelson edged former Guilford teammate Joe Cox, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8, at sixth singles.

Guilford hosts Emory & Henry College Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in a meeting of two teams with 6-1 league records.
