Washington and Lee Downs Guilford, 8-1, in Quakers' ODAC Men's Tennis Opener

LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee University improved to 6-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Sunday with an 8-1 men's tennis victory over Guilford College.

The Generals (7-3, 6-0 ODAC), ranked eighth in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III South Atlantic Region Poll, claimed all six singles matches. Hayden White downed Guilford's Tyler Mercier, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-3, in a hard-fought match at first singles. Washington and Lee lost just three points in the remaining five singles matches.
Guilford (2-4, 0-1 ODAC) earned its lone point at first doubles where Mercier and Clayton Hamilton teamed for an 8-4 victory over White and Taylor Shamshiri.

The Quakers are back in action Saturday (3/10) at league-rival Virginia Wesleyan College.
