Guilford, Averett Split Men's and Women's Matches

DANVILLE, Va. (3/31/10) -- Guilford College and Averett University split a nonconference tennis doubleheader Wednesday. The Quakers' women scored a 6-3 win over Averett, while the Cougars' men claimed a 6-3 triumph over Guilford.

In the women's match, the Cougars (2-7) defaulted three matches. Nina Bollag, Liz Killion and Megan Fair all won straight-set singles decisions for the Quakers (3-5).

Averett's men (4-5) won four-of-six singles matches, including Kirill Orlov's three-set win over Will Mason-Deese at first singles. Orlov teamed with Bruno Faidutti for an 8-5 triumph at second doubles. Jody Cox and Ben Nelson won in both singles and doubles to account for the Quakers' (2-5) points.

Guilford's men's tennis team hosts The Citadel Apr. 6, while the women's team returns to action Apr. 10 at Lynchburg College.
