SALEM, Va. (4/30/10) -- Guilford College freshman Andre Arguimbau earned honorable mention All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) recognition. League officials made the announcement Friday following the annual meeting of ODAC head tennis coaches.
Arguimbau logged a team-best 7-4 overall singles record playing all but one match at third singles. He was 4-2 against league foes and accounted for the Quakers' lone point with an 8-5 victory over Jonathan Gaffney of nationally ranked Washington and Lee University Feb. 28. Arguimbau teamed with Mark Cheong at second doubles and the pair forged a 7-3 overall mark, 4-3 against ODAC competition. Including a 1-1 record with other teammates, Arguimbau had an 8-5 overall doubles mark and led Guilford with 15 overall wins (including singles).
The Quakers posted a 6-7 overall record and qualified for the eight-team ODAC Tournament with a 5-4 record. Bridgewater College ended Guilford's season Apr. 23 in the tournament quarterfinals with a 5-1 victory. Arguimbau is one of five letter winners due back for the 2010-11 campaign.
Arguimbau, who also runs on Guilford's cross country team, completed his first official marathon in the midst of the tennis season. Despite not training and making a late entry into the race, he completed the North Carolina Marathon in four hours, 11 minutes.
