The Guilford College men's soccer team posted a 7-10 overall recorded for the 2018 season. There were a number of highlights for the Quakers during the year.
GC began the year with wins over Huntingdon, LaGrange and Methodist. The 3-0 start matched a program-best. On September 9, Averett University won at Guilford College, 1-0, with a goal in the 83rd minute to halt the winning streak.
On October 9, freshman Victor Jimenez recorded his first college hat trick as Guilford defeated visiting Emory & Henry, 4-0, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match. The performance marked the Quakers' first three-goal showing since Matthew Poling '15 tallied three times in a September 2012 win over Shenandoah.
Junior Enrique Gudino and senior A.J. Hawkins both scored their first goals of the season in Guilford's 2-1 ODAC victory over visiting Hampden-Sydney College on October 24. It was a special win for the Quakers on Senior Night. Although Guilford went 2-8 in ODAC matches, two of the defeats were by one goal.
Aguilar notched a team-best 11 points on three goals and five assists for Guilford. Jimenez netted a team-high four goals and had 10 points on the season.
Zach Van Kampen earned the majority of playing time in goal for the Quakers. A sophomore, he posted a 1.91 goals against average, made 82 saves and recorded a .739 save percentage.
Coach Corey Speed's Quakers finished the year on a two-game winning streak and improved five wins over their 2017 total. Speed could return as many as 24 letter winners next year, including the top-five scorers and eight starters from this season's club.
