NORMAN, Okla. – Guilford College golfers Josh Hill and James Mishoe earned PING NCAA Division III All-South Region recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Tuesday night. The pair also earned All-South recognition in 2018.
Mishoe was also honored Tuesday as one of five finalists for the Division III Jack Nicklaus Award presented by Barbasol, which honors the Division III men's golf player of the year. The golf icon himself will present the award May 30 in conjunction with the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio.
Hill, the Quakers' lone senior and a Nicklaus Award semifinalist, started the NCAA Division III Championships Tuesday with a 72.68 stroke average in 25 rounds that ranks second on the team, third among Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) leaders, and fourth in school history. The 2017-18 PING Third Team All-American has eight subpar rounds and three even-par rounds this season. Hill is ranked 14th in the 2018-19 Golfstat.com Division III Player Rankings and has eight top-16 finishes, with three top-six performances. He earned his third college medalist honor at the rain-shortened Greene Turtle Invitational September 10 in Front Royal, Virginia. A three-time First Team All-ODAC honoree, Hill took third at the 2019 ODAC Championships by shooting one-under-par 215 over 54 holes. He placed 12th at the 2017 Division III Championships and 18th in the 2018 Championships.
Mishoe, ranked first in the May 7 Division III Golfstat.com Player Rankings, owns a league-best and school-record 71.00 stroke average in 25 rounds. He has 15 subpar rounds and three even-par rounds. Mishoe won the ODAC Championship last month in a one-hole playoff over defending Division III medalist Brian Peccie of Washington and Lee University, also a Nicklaus Award finalist. Mishoe also captured the 2018-19 ODAC Golfer of the Year Award and was a four-time ODAC Player of the Week this year. The two-time First Team All-ODAC player had Guilford's top result in nine of 10 events. He finished sixth or higher in all 10 tournaments with four second-place finishes. Mishoe was a PING Second Team All-American in 2018 and placed 24th at the 2018 Division III Championships.
The pair has helped coach Adam Crawford's club to the number-six spot in the current Golfstat.com Division III Rankings and the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches' Poll. Guilford was in sixth place among 42 teams entering Wednesday's second round of the 2019 Division III Championships in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
