Guilford Shoots 283 on First Day at Camp Lejeune

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Guilford College shot 283 in Friday's opening round of the 40th annual Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate Men's Golf Tournament at the Paradise Point Golf Club.

The Quakers were one of 16 teams to play the par-70 Scarlet Course Friday. The remaining 16 squads played the par-72 Gold Course. The teams will swap courses Saturday and the low 16 scores after 36 holes will play the Gold Course Sunday for the tournament title.

This year's event features some of the top NCAA Division III and NAIA teams in America, plus a handful of NCAA Division II squads. Eleven schools are ranked in their respective Nike Golf/Golf World coaches' polls, including Guilford, Division III's top-ranked squad.

Greensboro College, ranked seventh in the Division III poll, shot 265 Friday on the Scarlet Course and posted the day's low score. Cape Fear Community College shot 271 and Centre College 273, also on the Scarlet Course, and round out the top three. Full results are not available, but Guilford's three-over score trailed at least five other teams on the Scarlet Course. Oglethorpe's 293 was Friday's low score on the Gold Course.

The Quakers' Noah Ratner turned in one of Friday's low scores, a two-under-par 68. Guilford's Mat Hennick and J.T. Thomas both shot 71 and Alex Wise and Dusty Roberts followed with 73.

Guilford tees off on the Gold Course's 10th hole Saturday morning and is paired with Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Bridgewater.
