Comeback Falls Short in 72-65 Men's Hoops Setback to Roanoke

GREENSBORO, N.C. – C.J. Miles scored a game-high 18 points in visiting Roanoke College's 72-65 Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball win at Guilford College Wednesday night. The Maroons improved to 11-4 (4-2 ODAC) and ended the Quakers' seven-game losing streak.

Miles had 11 points and three of his four three-pointers in the opening half. His scored his third trifecta at the halftime horn, which gave the guests a 32-25 halftime lead. Roanoke made seven of 13 three-pointers in the first half, two during a key 11-0 run during the middle of the period. Brandon Harrell's trifecta capped the spurt and gave the Maroons a 21-10 lead 9:46 before halftime. Roanoke led for all but the game's first 104 seconds.

Miles' final three-pointer came with 12:10 left in regulation and opened a 51-38 Maroons' margin. The lead grew to as many as 15 later in the half before Guilford rallied to within five in the final seconds.

ODAC scoring leader and defending conference player of the year Josh Freund totaled 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Caleb Jordan added two three-pointers and finished with 10 points. Local product Tripp Greene added eight points off the bench.

Guilford's Marcus Curry and Kyler Gregory shared team-high scoring honors with 15 points apiece. Carson Long added 11 points. Curry paced the Quakers' rebounders with eight. Gregory and Long both collected seven caroms. Will Leckonby shot 3-for-5 from long distance and finished with nine points. Roanoke held Guilford to 28.1 percent field-goal shooting in the first half and 35.8 percent for the game.

Coach Tom Palombo's Quakers visit Randolph College Saturday in a league game. Guilford topped the WildCats January 2 in Ragan-Brown Field House, 70-62.
