Greensboro, N.C. (11/8/10) -- Guilford College freshman Bailey Crego earned the Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award presented by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Monday.
Crego ran 26 times for 148 yards and a touchdown, all career highs, in Guilford's loss to Catholic University on Saturday. His 26 carries and 148 rushing yards were both team highs for the season, and his 34-yard touchdown run is the Quakers' longest run from scrimmage this season. He helped Guilford run for a season-best 238 team rushing yards and enjoy a nearly 13-minute edge in possession time. For the season, Crego has 243 rushing yards on 49 carries for a 5.0 yards-per-rush average, all team highs. He has also scored two touchdowns this season.
Saturday's 23-22 loss to Catholic University marked the Quakers' (0-9, 0-5 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) third one-possession loss this season. Coach Kevin Kiesel's club wraps up the season Saturday at Emory & Henry College.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford's SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school's student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive and the promotion of Champs Life Skills, which promotes intercollegiate athletics as a key part of the campus educational program and the student-athlete as an integral part of the student body. Its aim is to increase student-athletes' community involvement and to engage the greater Guilford community with the athletic department.
