Guilford Tabbed Seventh in Preseason ODAC Football Poll

Salem, Va. (8/7/09) -- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) head football coaches tabbed Guilford College seventh in their annual preseason poll announced Friday at the league's annual media day at the Salem Civic Center. Hampden-Sydney College earned two of seven first-place votes and the top spot in the poll. Emory & Henry College and Bridgewater College also earned two top votes and are separated by just two points for second place in the poll. Randolph-Macon College took the final first-place vote and was picked fourth.

Fifth-year Guilford head coach Kevin Kiesel returns eight starters among 34 letter winners returning from last year's 4-6 club (1-5 ODAC). Redshirt-junior running back Justin Parker is the Quakers' top offensive veteran after rushing for a career-high 795 yards and a school-record 10 touchdowns in 2008. Senior defensive end Markas Brunson, a Second Team All-ODAC selection last year, leads returning defenders. The Quakers will miss the leadership and offensive production of 2008 Third Team All-American receiver Kevin Vaughn '09 and NCAA Division III career passing leader Josh Vogelbach '08, both of whom graduated.

Guilford, which reports to preseason camp Aug 13, opens its 103rd football season Sept. 5 at Greensboro College in the 13th annual Gate City Soup Bowl.
