Greensboro, N.C. (11/10/08) -- Redshirt-sophomore Justin Parker of the football team won his first Guilford College Student-Athlete of the Week Award Monday. The weekly prize is presented by Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Parker, a 6-1, 210-pound running back, received the honor after rushing for a game-high 113 yards versus Catholic University Nov. 8, his career-best fifth 100-yard game of the year. He also scored two touchdowns on the ground, which gives him a school-record 10 scoring runs on the year. Parker ranks fifth among Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rushing leaders in yards per game (80.1), and stands third in rushing touchdowns.
Coach Kevin Kiesel's Quakers (4-5, 1-4 ODAC) conclude their season Saturday (11/15) at ODAC-rival Emory & Henry. The Quakers scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull out a 21-17 home win in last year's meeting in Greensboro.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford's SAAC, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school's student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a breast cancer awareness promotion, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
