Langston Named Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week

Greensboro, N.C. (9/8/08) -- Guilford College's Danny Langston won his first Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week Award Monday. The weekly prize is presented by Guilford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Langston, a 6-2, 190-pound safety, received the award after being named Guilford's Most Valuable Player of Saturday's Gate City Soup Bowl against Greensboro College. The senior made six tackles and broke up a game-high four passes in the Quakers' 22-13 win. Langston also had a game-high two interceptions for 41 yards in the fourth quarter.

Coach Kevin Kiesel's Quakers were picked fifth in the 2008 ODAC Football Preseason Coaches' Poll after a fifth-place conference finish last season. Guilford returns to the Armfield Athletic Center this Saturday with a home game against nonconference-rival Methodist University at 7:00 p.m.

Guilford's SAAC is comprised of representatives from each of the school's 16 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among student-athletes and non-student-athletes on the campus. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive to benefit local charities and dodgeball competitions among representatives from Guilford's administration and athletic teams.
