Six, Vogelbach Tabbed As 2008 Team Captains

Greensboro, N.C. (5/21/08) -- Guilford College head football coach Kevin Kiesel announced rising seniors Mike Six and Josh Vogelbach as the Quakers' 2008 captains Wednesday.

Six, a 6-3, 270-pound defensive lineman, is a two-year starter and two-time Second Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selection. He enters his senior season with 117 tackles in 18 games, including 6.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss. His 7.2 tackles per game in 2007 ranked fourth on the team and 19th in the ODAC. Guilford's 2007 Defensive Most Valuable Player had 58 stops (29 solo) in eight games, including 10.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, which ranked seventh in the ODAC. Six shared the Quakers' lead with three-and-a-half sacks, broke up three passes and blocked a kick.

Vogelbach, a 5-11, 200-pound quarterback, holds 13 Guilford passing records. He enters his senior season with 10,561 career passing yards, which stands ninth in NCAA Division III history. His 104 career touchdown passes rank 11th all-time. In 2007, Vogelbach captured D3football.com Second Team All-South Region honors and became the first repeat First Team All-ODAC quarterback since 2001. He threw 35 touchdowns and ranked second in NCAA Division III with 361.8 passing yards and 360.0 total offensive yards per game. Vogelbach set the ODAC's completions record and broke Guilford standards for passing yards (3,618) and pass completion percentage (63.9%). He won the ODAC's Rookie of the Year Award in 2004 after setting five NCAA Division III freshman passing records.

The Quakers concluded the 2007 season with a 6-4 overall record, 2-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), and posted their first back-to-back winning campaigns since 1990-91. Guilford lost nine seniors from the 2007 team and expects as many as 82 letter winners back in 2008. The Quakers set or tied at least 26 team and individual school records last year and led NCAA Division III in passing yards per game for the second straight season (376.9 ypg). Guilford opens the 2008 campaign at home Sept. 6 under the lights of Armfield Athletic Center versus crosstown-rival Greensboro College.
