Greensboro, N.C. (12/10/07) -- Guilford College redshirt-junior quarterback Josh Vogelbach earned Second Team All-South Region honors from D3football.com Monday. A first-time all-region pick, Vogelbach was the lone Guilford student so honored this year.
South region sports information directors and D3football.com staff made the all-star selections from a pool of 210 nominees. A total of 75 students were honored.
Vogelbach completed 331 of 518 passes for 3,618 yards and 35 touchdowns to become the first repeat First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) quarterback since 2001. Through games of Dec. 1, he ranks second in NCAA Division III with 361.8 passing yards and 360.0 total offensive yards per game. Vogelbach set the league's completions record and broke Guilford standards for passing yards and pass completion percentage (63.9%). He threw for over 300 yards eight times, including a league-record 592-yard effort versus league champion Hampden-Sydney College that ranks sixth in NCAA Division III history. His eight touchdown passes in the Quakers' season-opening win at Southern Virginia University set league and school records and helped garner the first of two ODAC Offensive Player of the Week Awards. He set ODAC marks with 48 completions in 79 attempts in the Quakers' Soup Bowl victory over crosstown-rival Greensboro College. The 48 completions are the most in Division III this year and fourth all time.
Vogelbach, who holds 13 Guilford passing records, enters his senior season with 10,561 career passing yards, which stands ninth in NCAA Division III history. His 104 career touchdown passes rank 11th all-time.
Coach Kevin Kiesel's club finished with a 6-4 overall record (2-4 ODAC) for the team's first consecutive winning seasons since 1990-91. Guilford set or tied at least 26 team and individual school records this year. Kiesel, who moved into fifth place among Guilford's all-time football coaching wins leaders, expects 82 letter winners back in 2008, including Vogelbach.
