Guilford College Picked Third in ODAC Football Poll

Salem, Va. (8/7/07) -- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) football coaches picked Guilford College third in their 2007 preseason football poll, its best ranking since 1998. Bridgewater College, winners of five of the last six league titles, received five first-place votes and the poll's top spot. Defending ODAC champ Washington and Lee University earned the remaining first-place votes and was picked second.

The league office released the preseason rankings at its annual Football Media Day at the Civic Center.

Third-year head coach Kevin Kiesel returns 45 letter winners from last season's Guilford club that recorded a 6-4 overall record (3-3 ODAC), the team's best since 1997. The Quakers welcome back 14 starters (7 offense, 7 defense) from its 2006 team, including redshirt-junior quarterback Josh Vogelbach, a First Team All-ODAC pick last season and Guilford's career passing leader with 6,943 yards and 69 touchdowns after just 20 games.

The Quakers open their 101st football season Sept. 1 against Southern Virginia at 1:00 p.m. in Buena Vista, Va.. The team's preseason workouts begin August 9.
