Guilford Picked Fourth in ODAC Football Poll

Hampden-Sydney, VA (8/3/06) -- Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) football coaches picked Guilford College fourth in their 2006 preseason football poll, its best ranking since 2002. Five-time defending ODAC champion Bridgewater received all seven first-place votes and the poll's top spot. Washington and Lee was picked second.

Second-year head coach Kevin Kiesel returns 25 letter winners from last season's club that won its last four games to post a 5-5 overall record, Guilford's best since 1997. The team's 4-2 ODAC mark secured a share of second place with Washington and Lee and Hampden-Sydney. The Quakers welcome back 11 starters from its 2005 team, including All-America receiver Chris Barnette and sophomore quarterback Josh Vogelbach, the reigning ODAC Rookie of the Year.

The Quakers open their 100th football season September 2 against Ferrum at 1:00 p.m. at the Armfield Athletic Center. The team's preseason workouts begin August 10.
