Barnette Named to Lindy's Preseason All-America Team

Greensboro, NC (06/05/06) -- Guilford College senior Chris Barnette earned a spot on Lindy's 2006 First Team All-Division III football squad. Lindy's recently released its 25th annual college football season preview, which includes 50 preseason All-America selections from among the 231 football-playing institutions in NCAA Division III. Barnette is coming off an impressive junior campaign in which he led all NCAA divisions with a league-record 101 receptions for 1,369 yards and 15 touchdowns in 10 games. He received second team All-America recognition from Don Hansen's Football Gazette and third team All-South honors from The 6-0, 175-pound receiver earned First Team All-ODAC honors and had six games with at least 10 catches. Barnette tied the league and school standards with 17 catches in a win over Catholic in which he added a school-record 233 receiving yards and three touchdowns. A two-year starter, Barnette enters his senior season with 172 receptions for 2,053 yards and 21 touchdowns in 28 games. He needs 30 catches, 1,037 yards and 13 touchdowns to break Guilford's career receiving marks set by current Arena Football League wideout Junior Lord from 1994-97.

Barnette is one of 26 letter winners due back from coach Kevin Kiesel's 2005 squad that went 5-5. The Quakers went 4-2 in the ODAC and shared second place in the 2005 conference standings.
