Guilford's Haase Picked for All-Star Football Game

GREENSBORO, NC -- Guilford College's Corey Haase is one of 64 seniors selected to play in the fifth annual East Coast Bowl Saturday (11/26) in Petersburg, VA.  Haase was chosen from among 200 nominees from NCAA Division I-AA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III institutions. The contest at Cameron Field begins at noon.

The regional all-star game also serves as a talent showcase for professional football scouts. Representatives from the NFL Scouting Combine, NFL teams, CFL teams and Arena League squads have attended past games. Over 40 East Coast Bowl alumni have played professional football. Coaching staff members of the Atlantic Indoor Football League's Richmond Bandits direct this year's teams.

Haase, a 6-2, 265-pound offensive tackle, started each of the last 20 Guilford games at right tackle. He appeared in 37 contests in his four-year career, with 28 starting assignments.  Haase and his fellow linemen were cited as D3football.com's "Team of the Week" after Guilford's 49-42 win at Catholic Nov. 5. Guilford yielded no sacks to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) sacks leader and threw the ball a school-record 72 times. The Quakers rank third among the league's best with 16 sacks allowed in 10 games and 480 pass attempts.

Haase helped first-year head coach Kevin Kiesel's club enjoy its best season since 1997. The Quakers won five of their last six games, including the final four, to finish with a 5-5 overall record. Guilford shared second place in the ODAC with Hampden-Sydney and Washington and Lee thanks to a school-record four league wins in six games. Kiesel expects 45 letter winners back in 2006.
