GREENSBORO, NC -- Redshirt freshman quarterback Josh Vogelbach was named to the Football Gazette's National Offensive Player of the Week list for NCAA Division III for the week ending October 2. This announcement comes on the heels of Vogelbach winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Offensive Player of the Week Monday.
Vogelbach threw two fourth-quarter scores in the Quakers' 36-35 comeback win over Greensboro October 1, including the go-ahead touchdown to rookie Kevin Vaughn with 4:51 left in the game. He set a school record with 395 passing yards and tied Guilford's all-time mark with five passing touchdowns for the second week in a row. His five-TD effort is the fourth-best single-game performance in ODAC history and his 395 passing yards rank ninth. Vogelbach completed 26-of-35 passes for the game and his 77-yard TD pass to Joe Joyner is tied for the longest scoring pass in the ODAC this season. He completed 11-of-12 passes for 114 yards and two scores in the fourth quarter.
Vogelbach has completed 56.5 percent of his passes and thrown for 16 touchdowns and 1,407 yards through five games. He is second in the ODAC in passing (281.4 per game) and total offense (289.8 per game) and is tied for first with 16 touchdown passes. Vogelbach stands 21st among this week's Division III total offense leaders.
Coach Kevin Kiesel's Quakers get an extra week to savor their first win and Vogelbach's award as they have a bye this week. Guilford returns to the gridiron October 15 and seeks its first conference win with a road game at nationally ranked Bridgewater.
