  • Guilford's Barnette Earns Second Team All-America Honors

    Chris Barnette became Guilford College's 22nd football All-American in school history Saturday when he received second-team honors on Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division III 2005 All-American Team. The Quakers have had at least one football student-athlete earn All-America honors in four of the last five years.

    Guilford College junior Chris Barnette earned First Team NCAA Division III All-South honors from Don Hansen's Football Gazette Monday. Senior offensive lineman Ian Kirwan was a third-team honoree and junior receiver Micah Rushing earned honorable mention laurels.

    Guilford College junior Chris Barnette and senior Ian Kirwan were selected to the D3football.com 2005 All-South Region Third Team Friday. The pair was chosen from a pool 163 nominees who compete at one of 53 NCAA Division III institutions from Pennsylvania to Texas to Indiana. South region sports information directors and D3football.com staffers selected the teams, the Web site's first regional all-star squads.

    Guilford College's Corey Haase is one of 64 seniors selected to play in the fifth annual East Coast Bowl Saturday (11/26) in Petersburg, VA. Haase was chosen from among 200 nominees from NCAA Division I-AA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III institutions. The contest at Cameron Field begins at noon.

    The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) head football coaches tabbed Guilford College redshirt-freshman quarterback Josh Vogelbach as the league's Freshman of the Year Tuesday. Junior teammates Chris Barnette and Travis Frazier earned First Team All-ODAC recognition. Vogelbach, senior center Ian Kirwan, redshirt-junior linebacker Mario Paylor and junior cornerback Devon White were second-team selections. Junior receiver Micah Rushing and sophomore defensive end Scottie Byrd earned honorable mention recognition.

Lanier will serve as the Quakers' inside linebacker coach and Westberg will coach the defensive backs on first-year coach Kevin Kiesel's staff.
