Greensboro, NC -- Guilford College senior Mark Davis has been named to the Academic All-District III Football Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
The all-district squads are comprised of football players from Division II and III institutions in the five-state area from Virginia to Florida. Nominees were starters or important reserves of sophomore academic standing or above who maintain at least a 3.2 grade point average.
Davis has appeared in eight games this season and started the last two. He ranks sixth on the team in tackles (36) and is the reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Defensive Player of the Week. Davis started the season as a second-string linebacker, but has started at safety in each of the Quakers' past two games, leading Guilford's tacklers in both contests. He made a game- and career-high 17 tackles Oct. 31 at Randolph-Macon, the most by a Guilford player since 1999.
Davis, a five-time member of Guilford's Student-Athlete Honor Roll, will graduate this spring with a double major in economics and business management. This year, he received Guilford's Dana Scholarship for scholarship, character and leadership. Davis is a two-time Academic All-ODAC honoree.
Coach Mike Ketchum's Quakers are 1-8, 1-4 in the ODAC, after a 35-21 victory Nov. 6 over Catholic. Guilford travels to Emory & Henry Saturday for its season finale.
