Guilford's Batts Named ODAC Defensive Player Of The Week

Greensboro, NC (09/15/03) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford College senior O.J. Batts (Wallace, NC/Rose Hill) as its Defensive Football Player of the Week for games of September 13, the league announced Monday. Batts becomes Guilford's first recipient of the league's weekly football awards this season. This is the second time he has received the award in his career.

A 5-8, 180-pound cornerback, Batts matched his career high with a game-best 11 tackles in Guilford's 27-24 win over Methodist. His returned first interception of the season 33 yards to set up a Quakers' touchdown. The senior has 15 career interceptions, three shy of Guilford's career record.

Batts leads the team with 18 tackles (9 solo) and has its only interception through two games. He also has the Quakers' only blocked kick, which came in Guilford's September 6 loss against Carson-Newman.

Coach Mike Ketchum's Quakers (1-1) play their first conference game against Hampden-Sydney September 27 at 1:00 p.m.
