Guilford's Kidd Wins Weekly Football Award

Greensboro, NC (10/13/02) -- Guilford junior linebacker Wes Kidd (Southport, NC/South Brunswick) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's Defensive Football Player of the Week Award for games of October 12, the league announced Sunday. Kidd, a first-time honoree, is Guilford's first defensive recipient of the league's weekly prize. Guilford junior running back Marcus Ballard (Burgaw, NC/Pender) and redshirt-sophomore quarterback Josh Smith (Goldsboro, NC/Rosewood) received ODAC Offensive Player of the Week prizes earlier this season.

A 6-2, 210-pound inside linebacker, Kidd led the Quakers' defense in Saturday's 24-14 road win over Ferrum with nine tackles, including five solo stops. He also made a tackle for loss. Kidd's efforts aided a defensive effort that produced four Ferrum turnovers and limited the Panthers to 264 total offensive yards in the Quakers' 24-14 win.

Kidd leads Guilford's tacklers with 50 stops (21 solo) and ranks sixth in the league with an average of 8.3 tackles per game. He recorded a career- and team-season high 14 tackles against Washington and Lee and Hampden-Sydney earlier this year. Kidd returned his lone interception of the season 24 yards for a his first college touchdown in Guilford's September 14 win at Methodist. He also has six tackles for loss and three pass deflections this year.

Coach Mike Ketchum's Quakers (3-3, 0-2 ODAC) host second-ranked Bridgewater (5-0, 1-0 ODAC) Saturday (10/19) in an ODAC contest. The Eagles are the defending NCAA Division III national runners-up and league champions. Kickoff at Guilford's Armfield Athletic Center is 1:00 pm.
