Hampden-Sydney Takes ODAC Doubleheader from Baseball, 11-1 and 7-2

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Hampden-Sydney College won both games of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at McBane Field. Guilford College fell by scores of 11-1 and 7-2.

Following the games, the Tigers improved to 17-18 and 10-10 in ODAC action. GC fell to 20-18-1 and 8-12 in league games.

Prior to the first game, Guilford honored six Quakers on their Senior day: Trevor Denton, Sam Gerald, Will LaCount, Michael Pinkston, Josh Shepherd and Austin Wilson.

In game one, Wilson got the start and took the defeat after allowing four runs in the first frame. Five other Quakers took the hill in the contest. Brody Holloman pitcheD 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief for the home team.

Harrison Moncure (4-3) tossed a gem for HSC. He pitched 7 2/3 innings and gave up one run and three hits while fanning five batters. Jonathan Triesler led Tiger hitters after going 3-5 with two runs, a double and three RBI. Moe Gothe had two doubles in four at-bats.

For Guilford, Shepherd went 2-3 with a double and a triple. GC had four hits to Hampden-Sydney's 11.

Brett Shapcott went 0-4 at the plate, which halted his 37-game streak of reaching base.

In the nightcap, The Tigers had 12 hits to five for Guilford. The game was tied 2-2 after five innings. The visitors then plated three runs in the sixth and added two more in the ninth.

Denton pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief and dropped to 3-6 after suffering the loss. He allowed five runs and six hits. HSC starter Nic Grazio improved to 2-4 after earning the victory. He pitched five innings, allowed two runs and four GC hits.

Devin Daugherty was the hitting star for the visitors in game two. He went 3-5, which included a solo home run.

Rocco Wilcox recorded a triple for Guilford. Mitchell Stumpo and Pinkston had a double in the contest. 

The Quakers now prepare for the first round of the ODAC Championship, which is next weekend. Guilford will be on the road for a best-of-three series.
