MOUNT BERRY, Ga.---Berry College's Alex McGill hit 5-for-5 with 2 RBI as Guilford College fell to Berry, 9-3, in a Saturday afternoon contest, the final game of the two-game set.
McGill added a double and a stolen base to his perfect day at the plate. McGill drove in the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning and added his second RBI on a RBI-single with one out in the bottom of the sixth.
Herc Ingels led Quaker bats, finishing the game 2-for-5 with a RBI single in the top of the ninth frame with one out. Josh Shepherd went 1-for-4 with a RBI-infield single to jump start the Quakers' seventh inning rally. Tyler Petersen capped the rally by driving in a run off of a fielder's choice with one out. Grayson Tuttle was the remaining Quaker with a multi-hit afternoon, finishing 2-for-4 with a double.
John Todd (0-1) took the loss for the Quakers, throwing three and one-third innings, giving up four runs on seven hits. Nick Blackwood relived Todd and finished the fourth inning giving up four runs on three hits while striking out one batter. Justin Morrison followed the next inning, striking out two while retiring all three batters faced in the inning. Lou Trosch finished the final three innings for the Quakers, giving up one run on five hits while fanning three.
Will Estes earned the start for the Vikings and went four innings, giving up one hit, striking out four and walking one batter. Glen Williamson (1-0) took the win, keeping a clean sheet for all two innings pitched. Tyler Will followed, throwing two innings while giving up two runs, all unearned, on four hits while striking out and walking one batter a piece. Joey Belly finished the final inning, giving up one run on three hits.
The Quakers (0-2) open their 2015 home schedule Tuesday, hosting Averett University in a 2:30 p.m. contest at McBane Field.
