DEMOREST, Ga. – Evan Gresham went 3-4 with a homer and two runs batted in (RBI) to help Piedmont College past Guilford College, 10-7, in a nonconference baseball game Sunday.

Gresham led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a home run. The Lions (2-0) tacked on three unearned runs later in the frame to open a 6-1 lead and chase Guilford starter Lou Trosch (0-1). Breck Davidson and Gresham hit consecutive run-scoring singles in the sixth as the Lions led, 10-2, after six innings.

Guilford (0-2) answered with three runs in the top of the seventh. Herc Ingels smacked a two-run double in the inning and later scored on a fielding error, which made it a 10-5 contest.

The Quakers loaded the bases in the top of the ninth inning and plated runs on Corey Wallace's sacrifice fly followed by Charles Noble's two-out, RBI single. The Lions brought in closer Jacob Brewster, who fanned Michael Whited and collected his second save in as many days.

Keith Grabowski doubled twice and had two RBI for Piedmont. Teammate Griffin Olson also had two hits and plated two. Starting pitcher Preston Graham (1-0) yielded two runs in five and two-thirds of an inning for the victory.

Ingels and John Macon Smith both had three hits for Guilford. Ingels and Wallace both had two RBI.

Guilford hosts NCAA Division II member Bluefield State College Wednesday in the Quakers' home opener at McBane Field at 2:30 p.m.
