Baseball Team Falls to Averett

GREENSBORO, N.C. (3/31/10) -- Averett University pounded four homers among its 24 hits in a 24-4 baseball win at Guilford College Wednesday.

The Cougars (20-12) scored seven runs in the second and seventh innings to gain a split of the season series with the Quakers (13-14).

Eric Sibrizzi had five hits, including a double, and scored three times for Averett. He had a two-run double and scored on Jake Loye's three-run homer in the Cougars' seven-run second. All seven runs were scored with two outs off of Guilford starter Will James (2-2). Leadoff man Adam Higgins was three-for-six with a three-run homer in the third inning and five RBI. Loye walked and scored three times and had four RBI.

The offensive outburst supported freshman left-hander Chris Moyer, who improved to 5-0 with seven innings on the mound. He yielded three earned runs and fanned seven.

Jordan Slate had two of Guilford's 10 hits in the game. Kent Peterson hit a two-run double for the Quakers.

Guilford returns to action Saturday (4/3) at Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Virginia Wesleyan College.
