  • Longtime Guilford Coach Stuart Maynard Named to Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame
    September 20, 2010
    Former Guilford College coach and teacher Stuart T. Maynard '43 was among 13 individuals inducted into the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame Monday. The Hall's sixth class was announced in June at a Greensboro Grasshoppers’ baseball game at New Bridge Bank Park. Maynard joins Rick Ferrell '28, Wes Ferrell '28, Bob Jamieson '32, Jerry Steele, Jack Jensen, Marion Kirby and Herb Appenzeller as hall of fame members with Guilford College ties.

    Four elite Guilford College student-athletes received the 2010 Nereus C. English '26 Athletic Leadership Award Monday evening. This year's English Award recipients are seniors Peter Latimer, Tyler Sanborn, Ann Seufer and Alex Starbuck. Since Guilford first presented the honor in 1977, 179 students have received the English Award.

Sophomore Jessica Burcham of the softball team won the ODAC’s Softball Pitcher of the Week and was also named Guilford’s Student-Athlete of the Week, as presented by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

  • Guilford Picked Seventh in ODAC Poll

    Guilford's baseball squad was picked seventh by Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball coaches in the league's annual preseason poll. Lynchburg College tops the field with four of 10 first-place votes and 90 points. Virginia Wesleyan College and Randolph-Macon College round out the top three with 81 and 80 points, respectively. Last year’s ODAC champion, Washington and Lee University, is fifth in this year’s poll.

    Alumni and friends have made gifts and pledges totaling nearly $290,000 to establish a fund honoring retired Guilford College coach Stuart T. Maynard, the college announced Sept. 26 during Homecoming and Family Weekend.
