  • Guilford Pair Lands ODAC Baseball Honors

    Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball coaches recognized Guilford College's Phil Drew and Alex Starbuck on the league's annual all-star and sportsmanship teams, league officials announced Wednesday. Drew earned honorable mention All-ODAC laurels for the second straight season while Starbuck represented Guilford on the league's Sportsmanship Team.

  • Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Randolph-Macon

    Guilford College split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader with visiting Randolph-Macon College Saturday afternoon at McBane Field. The Quakers rallied to win the opener, 8-5, while the Yellow Jackets took game two, 15-5. The Quakers' record is 17-22 overall, 6-12 in the ODAC entering Guilford's final game of the season Tuesday night versus Ferrum College. Randolph-Macon moves to 21-15 overall, 12-6 in the ODAC.
  • Baseball Shutout by Methodist, 10-0

    Methodist University's Landon Jordan and two relievers combined on a four-hit, 10-0 shutout of visiting Guilford College Thursday night. Jordan (3-0) retired 11 of the first 12 batters he faced before yielding to Alex Sholar in the eighth. Sholar threw a perfect eighth inning and Robert Kisiah tossed the ninth inning.
  • Guilford Splits ODAC Doubleheader with Eastern Mennonite

    Guilford College and Eastern Mennonite University split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Sunday afternoon at the Quakers' McBane Field. The Royals won the opener, 4-3. Guilford took the nightcap, 9-8.
  • Roanoke defeats Guilford in bottom of the 9th

    The Roanoke College baseball team defeated Guilford College (9-8) tonight in a nine inning contest at Kiwanis field. The Maroons improved to (10-15), (5-6) in the ODAC. The Quakers fell to (14-15) overall, (4-7) in the ODAC.

    The Washington and Lee baseball team dropped an ODAC doubleheader to Guilford on Saturday afternoon at Cap’n Dick Smith Field. The Generals lost the first game, 4-3, and then fell in the nightcap, 8-6.

    Todd Harrell's RBI single in the ninth gave host Hampden-Sydney College a 5-4 win in the second game of the Tigers' sweep of Guilford College in Saturday's Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader. Daniel Hadra tossed a complete-game two-hitter in Hampden-Sydney's 2-0 opening-game win.

    Byron Myers' single down the right-field line scored pinch-runner Mike Braverman from second base to give Guilford College a 14-13 nonconference baseball win over Tufts University Monday afternoon at Edgar McBane Field. The victory marked Guilford's (12-11) fourth straight comeback win in three days and capped a stretch of nine games in nine days.

  • Guilford Honors Top Student-Athletes With English Athletic Leadership Awards

    Six elite Guilford College student-athletes received the 2008 Nereus C. English '26 Athletic Leadership Award at a banquet Monday night in Founders Hall on Guilford's campus. This year's English Award recipients are Tracey Croner, Kelly Gonzalez, Joe John, Joe Joyner, Caleb Kimbrough and Kaci Loeffler. Since Guilford first presented the honor in 1977, 169 students have received the English Award.
  • Guilford's Drew, Latimer Win Weekly ODAC Honors

    Guilford College's Phil Drew won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) Baseball Hitter of the Week Award and Peter Latimer won the ODAC's Golfer of the Week Award Monday. The awards covered competition from Feb. 18-24. Drew also captured the Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week Award, presented by the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

    Guilford's baseball team has been picked seventh in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's (ODAC) preseason coaches' poll released Thursday. The Quakers' softball team was picked eighth in the 10-team poll. Selections were made by each sport's head coaches.

    Senior Anthony Corona hit a school-record three home runs in consecutive innings as visiting Greensboro College’s scored a 23-3 baseball win over Guilford College Tuesday afternoon. With the winds blowing out at McBane Field, the Pride (3-0) scored in every inning and hit a school- record seven home runs off of seven Quakers’ (0-1) hurlers.

    Guilford looks to bounce back from a 12-24 overall record in 2007, 5-13 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The Quakers went through 2007 without a veteran starting pitcher in the rotation and missed going to the six-team ODAC Baseball Tournament for the third time in seven years. Head coach Nick Black ‘02 embarks on his third season and returns 18 letter-winners from last year.

    The Guilford Baseball program has announced it has signed a three year contract with Reebok to provide the Quaker baseball program with bats, apparel, and other equipment through the 2010 season.
