Guilford Earns Split in Doublehead against Hampden-Sydney

Greensboro, N.C. (3/31/07) -- Robbie Bailey worked out of bases-loaded jams in the eighth and ninth innings to help visiting Hampden-Sydney split this Old Dominion Athletic Conference twinbill with a 6-5 win in the second game. He got Byron Myers to hit into a double play in the 8th inning and a Phil Drew flyout in the 9th. Josh Michael hit a 2-out, 2-run double in the seventh among his four hits for the Tigers. Todd Harrell, Anthony Denale and Ryan Daniel all had two hits for the visitors. Starter Daniel Hadra improved to 4-2 with 7.1 strong innings in which he yielded seven hits, three earned runs and fanned four.

Guilford's Chad Boone belted his third homer of the year to lead off the Quakers' second inning. Drew Ward had three hits, including a two-out double in the ninth. Alex Starbuck added two hits in defeat.

In the opener, Boone's 2-out, 2-run double capped Guilford's four-run seventh inning in the Quakers' 5-4 win. Rookie Jared Davis and Zach Schlesinger started the Quakers' seventh with solo homers, their first of the year. Boone went 4-4 in the game. Reid MacLean notched his team-leading third win of the season with an inning of relief. Davis and Ward had two hits apiece.

Hampden-Sydney's Anthony Denale plated an unearned run in the 2nd with a sacrifice fly and led off the 7th with a homer to left. Luke Swiney and John Apperson had two hits apiece in the loss.
