Guilford Tabbed Seventh in ODAC Baseball Poll

Greensboro, NC (2/1/07) -- Guilford's baseball squad was picked seventh by Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball coaches in the league's preseason poll Thursday. Defending league champion Virginia Wesleyan tops the poll with six-of-10 first-place votes. Bridgewater, the defending conference runner-up, finished second in the balloting and received four first-place votes.

Second-year head coach Nick Black returns with 18 letter winners from last season's group that went 24-18 and finished fourth in the league tournament. Senior outfielder/pitcher Chad Boone and senior second baseman Ian Spector return as the Quakers' top offensive threats. Boone hit .331 in 2006 with five homers, 29 runs batted in (RBI) and a .504 slugging percentage. Spector hit .339 with five doubles and 15 RBI last season. Junior pitcher Joe Overby posted a team-low 2.90 earned run average in a club-high 19 appearances last year.

The Quakers play their season-opener Feb. 3 at Christopher Newport. Guilford's first home game is Feb. 10 versus Piedmont.
