Averett Claims 17-9 Baseball Win at Guilford

Greensboro, N.C. (2/20/07) -- Jake Loye went 5-6 with six RBI to lead Averett past Guilford, 17-9, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at McBane Field. Loye belted a three-run homer off of Jared Via in the top of the seventh inning to give the guests an 11-6 edge. He also hit a two-run double in the second inning and an RBI single in the ninth.

T.J. Bray went 3-4 with four RBI and his first homer of the season for Averett (12-1), which won for the sixth straight game. John Laseur went 4-5 with two doubles and Eric Sibrizzi went 3-5 with two runs scored.  Reliever Justin Crowl moved to 2-0 with the win.

Guilford's Joe John belted two solo homers for the Quakers (3-2), who saw their three-game winning streak end. Ben Bizier had three hits. John Goodwin and Zach Schlesinger both doubled twice.

The Quakers host Southern Virginia Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Averett hosts Christopher Newport Saturday in its first USA South Athletic Conference of the year.
