GREENSBORO, N.C. (3/28/07) -- Greensboro College completed a season sweep of cross town rival Guilford College with a 7-2 win at First Horizon Park, marking the first Pride sweep since the 2001 season.
Additionally, The Pride won its season high fifth game in a row and moved to 17-12 on the season. Guilford fell to 7-18.
Chatham Bray (6-3) picked up the victory with a scoreless fifth inning of work. Teammates Jess Maloney (3-4, 2 RBI), Anthony Corona (2-4, 2 RBI, double) and Kyle Bolick (2-4, RBI) each had multiple hits for The Pride.
The Pride opened up scoring, with a single into left field by Maloney, scoring Pat Burgess from second. Burgess reached on an error by third base, and after a base-running error, Taylor Kennedy was caught in a rundown.
Guilford rallied in the third to tie the game at 1-1, with Ian Spector singling into left centerfield. Spector moved to second on a stolen base and advanced to third on a ground out by Drew Ward. Chad Boone followed with a single to right field, plating the first Quaker run.
The Pride bounced back in the third inning, starting with a Tyler Wolfe double into left center, moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Bolick. Taylor Kennedy reached base on a walk before Burgess moved the runners around with a hard single off the centerfield wall, scoring Wolfe. Maloney followed with a single to the shortstop, scoring Kennedy to give Greensboro a 3-1 lead. Burgess scored the final
run of the inning, scoring on a passed ball for the three-run Greensboro advantage.
Leading 4-1 heading into the fourth, Jeff Gregory led off with a single into the centerfield gap, moving to second on a steal. Bolick followed in the lineup with a single into left field, scoring Gregory for the fifth Pride run.
Greensboro scored for the third consecutive inning, when a two-out walk of James Hone extended the inning. Anthony Corona doubled into left center, scoring Hone.
Leading 6-1, in the seventh, Maloney singled to right centerfield for a hit, moving to second after a single by Hone. Corona singled through the left side of the Quakers infield, scoring Poindexter from third for the 7-1 lead.
Guilford scored its second run of the game, first since the third, starting off with a single to short and moving to second on a throwing error by Chad Drew. Two batters later Byron Myers singled through the right side of the infield, scoring Drew from third.
