ASHLAND, VA (3/10/07) -- A Greg Meleski bases loaded walk in the bottom half of the 10th inning gave Randolph-Macon College a 4-3 victory and capped off an ODAC double header sweep over Guilford College Saturday afternoon in Ashland. The Yellow Jackets claimed game one by the score of 4-1.
Charlie Hartt threw four innings of relief to pick up the win and even his record at 1-1 for the year. Josh Lane took the loss despite not allowing a hit in three innings of relief. Lane walked David Jayne and then hit Nick Wille before being lifted for Paul Kennan in the home-half of the 10th. Wille scored the game-winning run after Guilford had recorded two outs.
In game one, Kurt Breitmeyer went 5.1 innings, allowing just four hits and one run, while striking out two and walking three to improve his record to 3-0 on the season. Dillon Sheads relieved Breitmeyer and hurled the last inning and two things to record his fourth save of the season.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the first inning when Mike Wallace singled to open up the frame, advanced to third on consecutive ground outs and came home on a passed ball the make the score 1-0 in favor of R-MC.
R-MC boosted its lead to 3-0 when Brian Rogers homered off Guilford starter Jay Laramore in the home-half of the fourth inning.
Laramore took the loss for the Quakers after going 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on the six hits while striking out four and he did not walk a batter. The loss evens Laramore's record at 2-2 on the season.
With the pair of wins, R-MC now stands at 8-4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the ODAC. GC falls to 5-10 overall and 0-5 in the ODAC.
